I seek to create objects of beauty and utility for human spaces using contemporary glass crafting techniques and materials. The goal of my creations is to create a profound emotional experience between a person, an object, and its creator; that can in turn be shared with others. Such experiences are becoming extremely rare in our world where we often do not and sometimes cannot understand where or how the objects we live with are made. I am also sustainably minded, in terms of both the environment and the industry. This means I am efficient and conservative with the materials I use, as well as striving to source them as ethically as possible.
I work primarily with borosilicate, a specific recipe for glass, which is known for its durability and resistance to heat and is commonly found in kitchens, laboratories, and optics. Since the temperature when borosilicate becomes workable is around 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and requires a gas/oxygen burner to soften, it proves to be a mesmerizing medium to work with and often yields surprising results. Each piece is made individually by hand and as such no two pieces are identical. Furthermore, glass has been around since the Egyptians, but borosilicate has only been around since 1915, which makes it a relatively new medium of glass to work with.
