After a career in the healing arts mending bodies and spirits, I found a new therapeutic expression in clay and hand-building has been my joy for the past decade. Each piece is individually designed and handcrafted from dark, rich clay and meticulously painted by hand. I begin by rolling out large 1/4″ slabs, cut out walls and construct the forms, adding feet, knobs and adornments. While still wet I apply vibrant colors with underglazes, bisque fire, then apply final glazing by hand which will fire to a glossy shine, contrasting with the matte underglaze which I feel balances the pieces. My work is both sculptural and functional, bringing playfulness to everyday objects in the home and garden. I am inspired by the bold geometries of Memphis style design and contemporary art, along with the colorful tapestries of Mexican folk art. Both whimsical and bold, each piece is waiting to spark a smile. They are in essence an extension of my desire to bring a little more light and healing into the world.
