It is important to view my art as a realistic interpretation of the architecture and building styles uniquely characteristic of individual communities, as well as, architectural art movements. As I travel, I record unique buildings and architecture in photographic journals.
Shifting through the journals, I contemplate which photographs both conceptually and compositionally tell the story of the place visited. I create the textures and colors in my paintings by mixing with only a primary colors palette. I want the viewer to not only see, but to feel the age and history of the unique buildings of the recent and distant past. With each painting created, I strive to evoke a sense of nostalgia in the audience.
My current series showcase historical movie theaters in Texas. Earlier series included California missions, San Francisco, Fort Mason District homes, Oklahoma City Bricktown warehouse, and Florence, Italy.
