Woodworking is the basis, and heart of my art. However, in many way I think of myself as a painter. The woodturning I start with is my canvas, the various types of wood I inlay with are my pallet, and the inlays themselves are my brushstrokes.
In a practical sense, I concern myself with color, shape and edge in ways that combine my vision and the materials nature has provided me. By individually inlaying each piece of wood (usually which I have wrapped in aluminum or copper metal) into the woodturning, I am able to achieve a look that neither nature, nor I, could create on their own.
