Until now, I have primarily worked as a scenic artist, taking commissions on the side. My scenic murals and drops draw and transport audiences into the world unfolding before them and are consistently applauded in theater reviews; my poster art has made it across the country and even across the Atlantic. My online portfolio can be viewed at https://www.shelbiemac.com/art.

Moving forward, however, it is my desire to create pieces that are less ephemeral and more personal. Although I have undertaken projects with many different subjects and styles, my favorite work captures storytelling moments. I also enjoy landscapes– the bigger the better. Thankfully, Texas has no rival for big skies and spaces to inspire big art. One direction I am currently exploring is the pairing of visual art to musical pieces, allowing the music to guide the emotion of color and texture. Painting in this way becomes a dance performed by brush on canvas.

My goal in whatever piece I am painting is to communicate life, color, contrast, and character in order to elevate others. I believe the source of all beauty and meaning is found in my Lord Jesus Christ, and I seek to honor Him by connecting people to the beauty in our world and the humanity in each other through the medium of art.
