Michael Williams

Working in large scale watercolor, Michael Williams draws inspiration for his paintings from the natural world around him. Combining contemporary realism with a minimalist sensibility, he uses an overwhelming sense of light to deconstruct elements found within nature. Pulling from his prior work in portraiture, Michael continues to present the subjects of his paintings in this way. Each element is showcased separately, while remaining connected through the light, that presents itself as the white surface in each of his pieces. It’s in this process of deconstruction that his use of implied lines and translucent layers are able to bring life and a feeling of engagement to his work.
