Meredith Kuntzsch

My work deals with the idea of what is considered significant in our public and personal world and what we may be missing in the face of cynicism and impatience. The dreamlike landscapes are metaphors for a state of grace where inherent value trumps the noise and self-serving hype of our modern world. It’s in this “landscape” that I believe a purer form of humanity exists.

My use of traditional dry pigment pastels gives me the feeling of being one with the “dust” of the ground upon which we walk. Working without brushes, manipulating the pigment with only my fingers, reinforces this connection. My hope is that the viewer responds to the intense colors held carefully within the quiet compositions, and in turn is able to slow down, clear the mind and breathe deeply – if only for a few moments each day.
