My current focus as an acrylic painter lies in space, interior design, and most importantly, simplicity. These elements have evolved naturally through the experience of restoring a church and house in Hannibal, Missouri – both buildings being 120 years old. Because the restoration process has been on such a grand scale, I have developed a different way of processing individual rooms and the elements that occupy them. I strive to capture the perspective and “sense of space” by using only a fragment of an object or piece of furniture, both elements being equally important in the composition of the painting. While I have earned a Master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Michigan and never pursued it as a career, I am certain that it has played a critical role in my passion for the space, perspective, and interior design issues that I enjoy incorporating into my paintings. My techniques reflect my passion for simplicity. I use stretched canvas as my painting surface and use only brushes as a painting tool.
