Kreg Yingst

These woodcuts are partly inspired by medieval painting and printmaking sources such as Psalters, illuminated manuscripts, codices, and Book of Hours prayerbooks. My subject matter references ancient stories, poetry, and prayers, often from other countries and cultures—most recently Italy, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. Through my research and travels, the world of the mystic, poet, and saint, allows me to explore aspects of devotional art using images and typography. The woodcut allows me a slow, meditative means to transcribe it.
