My current work is mid century Pop with a touch of refined folk art. I create depictions of iconic women from pop culture and history, illustrating how their ideologies contribute to modern day feminism- the radical notion that women are people. I work in large format linocuts. The sheet of linoleum that I draw on, carve and print from is between 3 and 4 feet in size. I hand carve the reverse image with gouges, then ink the plate with a brayer and press the unmounted linoleum face down, directly onto the wooden cradled panel. I roll the 48 inch wide, 400 pound floor press (that I made from a Home Depot lawn roller) back and forth, pressing the plate directly onto the wooden panel. I use oil based ink for the print lines. The background painting is acrylic. All of my linocuts on wood are monoprints. Each piece is hand carved, inked and printed with several layers and sealed with archival varnish.
