George Raab

My intaglio prints are produced by creating textures and grooves into the surface of zinc plates. I use various techniques, including photo-etching, engraving, mezzotint, and dry-point. Ink is spread on the altered plate and the excess is hand-wiped from the surface. The ink that remains trapped below the surface is transferred onto dampened rag paper by subjecting each plate to the great pressure of my manually operated etching press. Many of the resulting images are then hand watercoloured.I have held many solo exhibitions as well as participating in group shows throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and the Far East. My work is included in more than 100 public, private, and corporate collections. Among my numerous awards is the Grand Prize for Prints at the prestigious American Biennial of Graphic Art; and my exhibitions include the Pratt Graphics Center in New York, and the International Graphic Arts Foundation in Washington, D.C. Most recently a large successful solo exhibition of my landscape etchings was held at the Embassy of Canada Gallery in Tokyo, Japan.
