Carl Walker Crum is a native Texan, whose Photomontages strike a nostalgic chord in the viewers mind. Inspired by the things people see everyday, his art combines vintage signs and landmarks that are unique to certain locales including Austin, Fort Worth, Big Bend, Houston, San Antonio and Dallas. Each photomontage contains over 300 signs and landmarks from each city. Carl believes that commercial signage and architecture provide part of the everyday voice of our communities. Everyday we are surrounded by commercial art that becomes part of our collective conscience. Signs will always serve to conjure up history Š—– most often yours and on occasion, someone elseŠ—Ès.
