My interest in photography goes back to my military days and my introduction to the darkroom in the base hobby shop. When I first saw an image emerge from a blank sheet of paper in the developing tray, I was hooked for life. After the military I decided to follow my passion. I enrolled at the Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in photography with the help of two part-time jobs, scholarships, and the G. I. Bill.I earned my degree studying classic film and darkroom technique. My conversion to the digital process was a reluctant one. I struggled with the realization that with film, I had to adapt my subject matter and shooting conditions to what the film could handle. With digital, I could now work with more difficult lighting situations and succeed instead of blaming myself for what turned out to be the limitations of the darkroom process. Film is capable of exquisite results, but with digital photography I can now capture a range of subject matter and lighting I may have otherwise missed.I travel all over the U.S. with my wife, Ann, showing my work at outdoor art festivals. We have been fortunate that the work also takes us to Europe and we’re looking forward to many more years of sharing the work with what has turned out to be a wonderful and gratifyingly enthusiastic audience.
