My art career began with my fingers covered with acrylic paint at the advanced age of five years old in a nursery school classroom. I fell in love with the taste and smell of a wonderful ultramarine blue and the relationship only blossomed and continued for the next 40 plus years.
The romance began simple and silly, mostly drawing and painting cartoon and video game characters of the 1980s.
As the affair became more serious our relationship went outdoors, and we borrowed subject matter from the natural landscapes and wildlife of the upper Midwest. We strove for an almost photorealistic representation of what we admired.
Then came the college years and we became a bit disillusioned and found the answers in our dreams, finding solace in Surrealism.
As we matured and grew old together, we finally figured out what made us happy. Our current art style and subject matter reflects the many stages of our love affair. Mixing the realism and beauty of natural landscapes with the fantastical imagination of surrealistic mind-wanderings. And even a little comic silliness sprinkled in here and there.
I now mostly use oil paint to bring my daydreams to reality. And like good music and literature we like to be democratic with our ideas and spread the love of our affair to everyone with giclee reproductions.
