Thomas Diel
Tom designs & makes art furniture edifices out of wood, metal, concrete, or most any material with an industrial-chic flair. Many pieces have been inspired by the built environment & industrial iconography. He designs with thought to the use of materials and methods of construction with the execution of craft always at the forefront. From sketches to CAD drawings through bench work, all aspects have been smudged by his hand. He welcomes commissions and collaborations as the one-off design build has been his long held pursuit.
Trained as an industrial designer he caught the furniture bug while finishing final studies at The University of Kansas in 1991. After graduating, he worked in as many differing fields to learn materials and the ways with which to work them with which some day to apply his own aesthetic. He has been happily self-employed since 2011 where you can find him following my passion.
Whether it be steel, stainless, aluminum, bronze, concrete, plastic, solid wood or veneer, he tries to apply materials where his aesthetically ruled mind makes sense in the context at hand. You can view my work at thomasdiel.com
