Using pure color, freedom of line, and simplicity of shape, I carve my composition into the reverse side of a sheet of acrylic or glass with dremel and metal grinding tools. I then slowly build up and remove multiple layers of color. These layers are applied in thin subtle transparent washes. Each layer effects the previous application. Multiple applications help create vibrant color interaction. This slow application and removal of pure pigment, acrylic, and gold leaf influence the perceived depth and texture. The layers are applied with brush and palette knife, and removed with dremel drill, metal grinding tools, razor blades and rough abrasives. Carving into the surface of the acrylic causes a three dimensional effect; the play of color interacting with light serves as a guide. This process is repeated several times.
