Every summer or fall I visit an aspen forest to collect wood for my carvings. Each visit is like a pilgrimage. Every time I return IÕm moved by the strength and the delicacy of the natural world. My carving style is inspired by iconic imagery found in folk, tribal and outsider art. The themes I choose are personal yet universal. My love for the natural world and my concern for the environment often translate into works about the complex relationship between humans and nature in this modern age. I layer my experiences into the artworks adding my voice to the collective stories. I look for metaphor in the materials I choose, the poems of the flowers, bones and rust, the secrets of the slow growing trees, communal stories about life here on earth.
