I use fire, sharpened steel and organic inks to create story-driven, one-of-a-kind touchable illusions… wood, re-imagined as woven and beaded basketry and sculpture. My work is unexpected and opens the door for artist and patron conversations beyond the usual. Works delight, both to the eye and to touch. As I interpret Native Culture stories and imagery, there is the opportunity to bring forgotten lessons and learning to light for generations removed from our Western formative years. Wood is a familiar but unexpected medium… yet is an ideal canvas to bring honored heritage and reverenced history to a present-tense dialogue. As the elders would teach: “listen well.. the natural world will always speak. Learn, and soak deeply in the wisdom and strength that surrounds us all…”.
