Lewis Tardy
The biomechanical styles of Lewis Tardy’s sculptures have evolved throughout a lifetime of experiences, creating life and motion out of static scrap metals.
“I spent my time tinkering with engines and motorcycles during my teens and twenties which gave me a good understanding of mechanics. Inspiring shapes and designs discovered within found objects along with my love to illustrate the human form and my mechanics background are all contributors to the evolution of my art today”.
Ideas are rarely sketched in advance, however, an outline is drafted in his head and then he searches for the shapes and designs within scrap parts to bring those ideas to life. Other elements that are taken into consideration are tone, texture and even weight of the material to be used. On many occasions, a single shape or part will inspire and become the building block of a whole Idea.
His talent comes from the union of metallic materials coupled with a mixture of commentaries including sexuality, levity, motion, strength and attitude. This union takes shape in human and animal subjects alike.
Lewis Tardy’s sculptures are included in corporate and private collections across many countries of the world.
