Teresa Haun

Growing up, the radical idea of becoming an artist was pushed to the last of the career list by my colleagues, my teachers, and even myself. No one ever told me that artists aren’t truly starving, but in fact, artists have adventurous, successful and creative lifestyles. It wasn’t until my early twenties when I discovered the art-show world and the opportunity involved with it. That’s when it clicked. After experimenting with several different media such as photography, wood, metal and PMC, I finally found my passion in fiber: paper and leather to be exact. Combining the two together to create journals continues to challenge and inspire me, advancing my abilities to apply my talent in bookbinding and execute my designs. Through my work, I also inspire others to continue their art of the written word and the art of pencil or paintbrush.I hand-select, hand-cut and work several different tans of cowhides; I prepare a variety of archival, handmade papers for each book; and finally, I stitch the two together using traditional binding techniques or methods of my own design. My journals are completed by using a semi-precious stone disc and leather strap that serve both as an embellishment and a closing apparatus.Every piece I make is one-of-a-kind, as every journal should be.
