Janelle Lile

I’ve inherited my grandpa’s old railroad manuals and my grandma’s knitting patterns and notes. I’ve scanned diagrams from the books and my grandma’s handwritten notes and transferred them onto different surfaces to incorporate into the drawings and collages. I’m also loosely basing the abstract elements of the pieces on versions of the diagrams. I think of these inherited items as my own personal library of symbols. These pieces reference my family history while creating something new that reflects my own aesthetic.
