George Raab
My wilderness landscape etchings are made by creating textures and grooves below the surface of zinc or copper plates. The techniques I use most frequently are etching, aquatinting, photo-etching, mezzotint, and drypoint. Ink is spread onto the plate and the surface is hand-wiped. The ink that remains is transferred onto dampened rag paper through the great pressure of my manually operated printing press. Some of the resulting images are hand water-coloured. My etchings celebrate one of our greatest assets – our natural heritage. I turn to these unspoiled areas for both aesthetic and spiritual inspiration.
