Pamela Summers

I am predominantly a ceramic and glass artist who makes handmade tiles, tile mosaics and vessels using a variety of materials and methods. My original designs have evolved over thirty years as a full time studio artist and I continue to explore new combinations of shape and color. It pleases me when I can create beauty that causes the viewer to stop and take a deep breath. I attended the Pretoria Art School College for Advanced Technology in Pretoria, South Africa where I was first introduced to colorful patterns and texture, which I have taken with me throughout my career. I have developed a strong signature technique for brightly colored designs and patterns of contemporary ceramics and glass that have given me both regional and national recognition. Visually I weave my designs and images on the surface of the clay or glass tile. My intent is to create my own vision of depth perception. Using color is my favorite part of making art. It is intellectual and emotional. Through color I can explore the world.
