Kandice Pierce

I paint to remember the connection I feel with a place I’ve traveled to so my mind will not forget. I hope that the relationship I find with a place I paint inspires connections for others by reminding them of a time they were somewhere memorable and happy. Whenever I travel, I yearn to experience as much of a place as possible, and you’ll find me up before the birds at sunrise, walking along a beautiful hike and chasing sunsets. My hope is to capture the essence of the place and time I was there. I paint to travel, and I travel to paint.

My first love is oil paint, with my second being acrylic if I’m painting Plein air. I must mention watercolor, too, since I paint with it in my sketchbooks while traveling so I can reference the material when I return to the studio. While my studio can be an artistic mess, it’s usually reasonably tidy and organized since I spent fifteen years in commercial interior design with a focus on the hospitality industry before becoming a full-time artist in 2021. Like many during the pandemic, change led to realizations for me, and now I can’t imagine doing anything else. My practice consists of fine art, prints, and ever-growing educational offerings.
