Suzanne Schmid

Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold. While hiking in Central Illinois, I find critters in nature that have passed on, and give these treasures new life by repairing any structural damage with gold. I preserve each one behind a glass dome mounted on one-of-a-kind, hand-formed and soldered pedestals of various mixed metals. Some components of my work have been reclaimed from electric and aerospace salvage yards, completely deconstructed, reformed, and incorporated into the designs.
