I grew up in remote rural Texas surrounded by nature that, while beautiful in its way, was harsh in its weather and savage in its wildlife. Our house was an oasis created by my mother, a wonderful artist, who covered every surface with colorful paintings, textiles and exotic treasures from her travels around the world. I absorbed both those environments, but did not take up painting for many years. I moved to California where I worked for a long time in the makeup and costume industry, which brought me adventures and travels to far off places of my own – most notably India where I worked off and on for three years. I returned to our family home about five years ago to help my mother take care of my father and manage the property after his death. I ended up finding my place in the community running the local bar and met my husband who now lives with us and our little daughter. I have steadily painted more and more since my return home and now hardly a day goes by that I don’t try and create something, whether a painted skull, a canvas or a piece of clothing. I would like very much to continue this way of life and help support my family so that my daughter can have the same wonderful environment my parents gave me.
