Rachel Harvey

I came to art as an adult, mid-way through my accounting career. The discovery of oil painting changed my life, introducing me to a way of communicating the peace and joy I find in the landscape. A switch flipped and I suddenly could speak and understand a new language. I am compelled to paint, to express myself through this elegant, poetic visual language.
My paintings evoke the quiet moments in our lives and tap into the nostalgia of childhood memories. My work represents solitude and refuge, an emotional connection with the land and sky in which the busyness of life recedes to an ambient roar, the movements of others becomes slow-motion, and their words indistinct. One is aware of the vastness of the land, the endlessness of the horizon, the expanse of the sky, a limitless hemisphere radiating out from where one stands.
