Kyle McNeill

I couldn’t draw as well as the kids next to me in art class, because I judged myself as a photorealist, like them. I couldn’t sculpt as well either, because what I desired to make was too complex for my tiny pottery wheel. But I didn’t know this at the time, and I told myself creation for creations sake wasn’t for me just because my metric was others. I don’t think I have an all encompassing philosophy, but more so hope that my work stirs an inner kid in those who view it. I take a more caricatured approach to addressing the stressors in my life, making them feel like childhood memories. Life moving too fast? Biking downhill. Anxiety coming from every angle? tossed around the ring like a rag doll. Exciting times around the bend? Sitting at the bus stop waiting to get picked up. I use photoshop, a projector, paint markers and canvas to bring these drawings to life in my own life.
