Jason Wright
The artworks submitted for inclusion in this show are created using collage of paper fragments hand cut and fit together and mounted on canvas or panel. This unique process is similar to mosaic, made with paper, incorporating a variety of found and hand crafted mixed-media materials. These abstract works have a modern look and feel, and incorporate a variety of organic patterns inspired by nature. These artworks are made in large part from the artistÕs own work, cut into fragments and reconfigured into altogether new works. This use of the artistÕs earlier artworks as the raw material to make new works informs them with a unique history and process, and invites viewers to engage with the work on deeper levels. Jason Wright is an artist working across a variety of media, from drawing and painting, to sculpture, video, and installation. In addition to having roots in the fine art tradition, Wright’s practice is informed by a wide range of everyday and vernacular art-making traditions, and through his work, he seeks to engage directly with people from all walks of life. Wright has exhibited work nationally for over 20 years, most recently at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson. The artist currently resides in Southeast Michigan.
