I was eight years old when I started designing knitted outfits for my Barbie dolls and later on sweaters for my college friends. I knit clothes for myself and for my children. I put down my knitting needles for a long time until I found myself suddenly wanting to knit unconventional free spirited wraps for women. That continues to be a wonderful ongoing adventure.
Recently I started designing wall hangings. These give me so much freedom to incorporate different materials including pit fired clay bits that I make, various grasses, and wonderful found wood remnants in various forms collected from my walks in forests and along roadsides and waterways. I see so much beauty in the natural breakdown of trees.
When an idea starts taking form in the shape of a wall hanging it is a exciting emotional release, often challenging, taking the vision to reality
I am grateful for a new respect for fiber art and hope to challenge myself in the coming years.
